Tracey Sulak Bedwell, CTP, MBA

Thirty years ago, a small group of cash managers and bankers sat around a table in a downtown office and asked the question: Would San Antonio have enough interest to support a new local treasury professional association? (The answer to the question played out as a resounding: “Yes!”).

One of those six original members was Tracey Sulak Bedwell, CTP. She subsequently served in a variety of Officer /Board positions in SATMA, including two terms as President.  She was the Program Chair for the first TEXPO held in San Antonio. An engaging speaker at local meetings, TEXPO and the AFP conferences, she has also published articles and served on the editorial advisory board of a published manual of Treasury Policies.

Tracey has spent most of her professional career in Treasury. She received her BA from Trinity University. Originally a working as teacher and a laboratory technologist, after receiving her MBA at UTSA, she “stumbled” into Treasury, and never left. She has worked at CHRISTUS Health where she managed the cash and investments for a large number of hospitals, and AT&T in the domestic and international cash management areas, as well as in the Pension investments group, where she had oversight of $12 billion of fixed income and alternative investments.   She says that she’s been fortunate to be able to work and stay in San Antonio after not just one, but both companies relocated to other cities in Texas. Currently Tracey is the Treasurer of the Alamo Colleges, where is she is responsible for the property tax administration, issuing and managing debt, investment of funds and banking.
Tracey is married with one son, a recent Trinity graduate, who is studying cyber-security at San Antonio College. “It’s easy to be the ‘first’ at things when you’ve been in Treasury as long as I have”, she jokes. “I’ve had the opportunity to pretty much do it all, in a profession I truly enjoy”.
